Install Obra on your Android phone

Add Obra to your home screen from Chrome so the ledger and the receipt camera are one tap away — no app store needed.

Why install it?

Obra installs straight from your browser — there is nothing to download from an app store and it takes well under a minute. Once installed, it opens full screen from its own icon, and the receipt camera is one tap away when you're on site.

Install in four steps

  1. 01

    Open Obra in Chrome

On your phone, go to tryobra.com in Chrome and log in to your account.

  2. 02

Open the ⋮ menu and tap "Add to Home screen"

Tap the three dots in the top-right corner to open Chrome's menu, then tap "Add to Home screen". Depending on your version of Chrome it may say "Install app" or "Install and create shortcut" instead — they all do the same thing. Chrome sometimes offers an install banner at the bottom of the screen on its own; tapping that works too.

  3. 03

    Choose "Install", not "Create shortcut"

If Chrome asks you to choose between "Install" and "Create shortcut", pick Install — that's what makes Obra open full screen like a real app; a shortcut only reopens the browser. Then confirm by tapping Install in the small window that appears. That's it — no app store, nothing else to sign up for.

  4. 04

Open Obra from your home screen

The Obra tile now sits with your other apps — on your home screen and in your app list. It opens full screen, and the camera works for snapping receipts on site.

Tip

Already using Obra in the browser? After you save a transaction, Obra offers the install with a single tap — and you can always find "Install app" in the menu.

Don't see the option?

If you opened Obra from a link inside WhatsApp, Facebook or another app, you're in that app's built-in browser, which can't install anything. Tap its menu and choose "Open in Chrome", then follow the steps above.

If the menu doesn't look like this at all, you're probably in a different browser — many phones come with Samsung's "Internet" or another browser from the factory. These steps are for Chrome, which almost every Android phone has: find the Chrome app and start again from step one.

If the menu shows "Open Obra" instead of "Add to Home screen", the app is already installed — you're done.
