How we write our guides.
Obra publishes guides, comparisons, a glossary and free calculators for contractors. This page says who writes them, where the numbers come from and what we do when something is wrong.
What you can hold us to.
-
01
Numbers name their source
Benchmark figures say where they come from, next to the number. Where the original publication is public (CFMA, NAHB, a state licensing board) we link it, and when a figure comes from someone else's summary we say so.
-
02
Competitor facts carry a date
Each comparison shows the date its facts were last checked against the vendor's own site. Prices and plans change, so we tell you to check the vendor's site before you buy.
-
03
We say where others fit better
We make Obra, so we are not neutral. Every comparison says what the other product does that Obra doesn't, and which kind of business it suits better.
-
04
"Not yet" means not yet
When a page says Obra does something, it does it today. Anything we haven't built, like a QuickBooks sync, is called "not yet" instead of being hinted at.
-
05
Dates mean something
A guide's updated date moves when its content changes, not when we only adjust a link or a title.
-
06
No paid placements
Nobody pays to appear in a guide or a comparison, and our pages carry no affiliate links.
Found a mistake? Tell us.
Email us with the page and what's wrong. We fix factual errors, and when a fix changes what a page says, its updated date changes with it.
